About Me
Rosemary Gichure is a dynamic environmental leader, strategist, and educator with a passion for advancing sustainable development through collaborative ecosystem restoration, climate action, and youth empowerment. She currently serves as the Head of Programs at Hearts of Green Organisation (HoGo), where she leads the design and implementation of transformative initiatives such as the Landscape Repair and Transformation (LANSRET) Program, a flagship partnership with the University of Nairobi’s Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies. Under her leadership, the organisation has expanded afforestation, climate education, and site adoption models turning institutions, schools, and communities into champions of restoration.
In her dual role as Alumni Coordinator and PhD researcher at the prestigious Wangari Maathai Institute, Rosemary integrates scientific research, community participation, and institutional collaboration to inspire evidence-based environmental stewardship. Her doctoral research, “Community Water Use, Anthropogenic and Technological Needs for Sustainable Water Management in the Athi River Basin,” leverages remote sensing (RS) for community decision-making, combining geospatial technologies with socio-economic data to build inclusive, data-driven water governance frameworks. This positions her at the cutting edge of linking Earth observation science with grassroots action, ensuring that local voices are amplified in climate and water management solutions.
Rosemary’s expertise spans stakeholder coordination, policy advocacy, and youth engagement, where she has been instrumental in connecting grassroots movements with academic and corporate partners. She has spearheaded projects like “Adopt-A-Tree” and LANSRET, enabling them to scale nationally by integrating community nurseries, CSR partnerships, and innovative water-saving technologies such as bottle and drip irrigation. Her leadership embodies the legacy of Professor Wangari Maathai, blending scientific knowledge, remote sensing insights, and indigenous wisdom to deliver inclusive and impactful sustainability outcomes.
