Wangari Maathai Legacy: Landscape Repair and Transformation

Landscape Repair and Transformation
The Wangari Maathai Legacy is an initiative by the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies and the Hearts of Green Organization to promote tree growing and landscape restoration in line with Kenya’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
This initiative addresses the global landscape degradation crisis, with over 50% of landmass needing repair, as highlighted in the Bonn Challenge (2011). Kenya has committed to restoring 5.1 million hectares of land by 2030 under the AFR100 Initiative and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030).
