A month of climate action, partnership, and community-led restoration — rooted in hope, evidence, and the enduring legacy of Prof. Wangari Maathai.
November marked a milestone for Hearts of Green as we represented Kenya globally and actively engaged with local communities, making meaningful strides together. Thanks to our passionate partners, supporters, and team, we’re building a stronger, greener future.
We worked with the Wangari Maathai Institute to strengthen restoration and monitoring efforts, ensuring all activities align with evidence-based practices and Kenya’s tree-growing targets.
1. Global Climate Representation at COP30 (Belém, Brazil)
This November, we were honored to participate in COP30, the world’s largest UN climate conference, held in Brazil — the heart of the Amazon. The global discussions championed climate justice, increased funding, adaptation strategies, and urgent action to protect our planet’s biodiversity.
We ensured Kenyan community views on tree growing, restoration, and nature-based solutions were heard at COP30 and continue aligning our programs with global climate goals.

2. Mazingira Day 2025 Celebrations
In honour of Kenya’s Mazingira Day, we joined thousands across the country in renewing our commitment to environmental protection and climate action. Our activities focused on awareness creation, storytelling, and sharing practical actions that communities and institutions can take to safeguard biodiversity.
Mazingira Day reminded us that lasting environmental change is driven by shared responsibility and the everyday actions of people — together, we are the stewards of Kenya’s natural heritage.

3. Expanding Restoration Work in Schools — Kirinyaga Central Constituency
With support from the Kirinyaga Central NG-CDF (National Government Constituencies Development Fund, a local development fund), we continued our ambitious program to plant and grow trees across 26 schools in the constituency.
In November, our team visited multiple sites to:
- Assess seedling survival rates.
- Monitor soil and moisture conditions.
- Support ongoing planting activities.
- Provide guidance on follow-up care, such as mulching and watering.
- Document field observations through photos, videos, and TSNAP App uploads
Partnering with the Wangari Maathai Institute, our goal is to pursue long-term, evidence-based restoration that revitalises ecosystems and aligns with Kenya’s national tree-growing targets. Each school is included in a three-year monitoring plan to ensure lasting impact.

4. Strengthening Digital Monitoring Through the TSNAP App
A key focus this month was capacity-building on the TSNAP monitoring application, one of the digital platforms we use to track and verify progress under the LANSRET Programme.
We conducted multiple demonstrations and user-support sessions with institutions and partners to ensure seamless data uploading, site tracking, and reporting.
Accurate and transparent monitoring is at the heart of our mission. We know that true impact is measured not just by planting, but by ensuring every tree survives and grows strong.
5. Corporate Engagement & Sustainability Partnerships
Throughout November, Hearts of Green strengthened collaborations with organisations dedicated to climate action. Notable engagements included:
- Kirinyaga Central NG-CDF — Ongoing support and facilitation of the 26-school tree-growing programme, including monitoring, reporting, and long-term ecosystem restoration.
- Viva Insurance — Training sessions on TSNAP and discussions around long-term tree-growing support
- Pioneer Insurance — App demonstration and alignment with their tree-growing commitments
- Platinum Credit Group — Progress reviews and monitoring of sites co-implemented
- Quickmart Supermarket — Continuous reporting and future expansion of their restoration footprint
These partnerships reflect a growing recognition of nature-based solutions as drivers of corporate sustainability, community resilience, and climate action.

We highlighted our progress and community impact through field stories, short educational posts on biodiversity and climate, and photo and video documentation of planting and monitoring activities, sharing updates across digital platforms to celebrate achievements and inspire participation in building a greener, more resilient Kenya
6. Looking Ahead: Scaling the LANSRET Programme
We look ahead — together — to December and the new year. Our key priorities are:
- Strengthening community-based restoration
- Engaging more schools and partners
- Enhancing monitoring tools for accuracy
- Preparing for upcoming planting seasons
- Building partnerships inspired by the legacy and teachings of Prof. Wangari Maathai
Together with our partners and communities, we are excited to scale the Landscape Repair and Transformation (LANSRET) programme, honoring Prof. Maathai’s vision for dignity, justice, and environmental stewardship across Kenya.
We are deeply grateful for our partners, donors, and every community champion who walks alongside us. Your trust and commitment fuel our vision for a greener, more just Kenya.
Every tree grown and report submitted brings us closer to a sustainable, healthier future.
